In the early morning of the 26th, in the Singapore Strait near Kalimen, Riau Islands, Indonesia, the "Marcopolo 188" barge was severely tilted and almost sank after the container was displaced after being hit by strong winds. The barge, which was carrying dozens of containers, was on its way from Pekanbaru to Singapore by the tugboat MEGA DAYA 43 when the accident occurred.

Slamet Riyadi, head of the Tanjungpinang Basarnas Search and Rescue Office, said in a written statement released on Thursday afternoon that a large number of containers fell into the water. The person in charge said that the barge was affected by bad weather and encountered strong winds when it passed through the waters of Tanjong Palai Carimong at about 1 am on the 26th, and was hit by waves and caused it to tilt. "The accident was caused by strong winds and the barge was tilted 60 degrees."

Slamet Riyadi added that a joint search and rescue team consisting of Basanas, the Navy, Borel and KPLP participated in the rescue and there were no casualties in the accident, and the eight crew members were evacuated safely.

It is reported that the destination of the cargo ship this voyage is Singapore, and the ship originally carried 195 containers.

The barge has reportedly been stably towed to Singapore under the supervision of the Port of Carrimon Authority (KSOP) escort.
