The Ministry of Presidential Affairs expresses its condolences to the people of the UAE and the Muslim world on the passing of Khalifa bin Zayed on Friday, 13th May, 2022.

The UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs announced 40 days of mourning at half-mast starting Friday, with the public and private sectors suspending work for the first three days, the report said.

Khalifa, born in 1948, took over as the UAE's second president in November 2004, succeeding his father as Abu Dhabi's 16th leader. He has made few public appearances since 2014 following a stroke operation, but has continued to issue decrees.

His younger brother, Crown Princce Mohammed of Abu Dhabi, has been seen as the de facto ruler of the UAE in recent years.
